Not everyone likes to drink ice-cold water. You may be one of them!

Though the decision to change your mind is all yours, it’s best to still consider it given the following benefits:

1. It helps you lose weight.

Nothing still beats eating the right kind of food and exercising in order to lose weight. However, any type of helps is also surely appreciated.

Cold water can contribute to your weight loss. Consuming around 16 ounces or half a liter of water lets you burn at least 17 calories. That’s not really much especially since you can burn up to 50 calories an hour by standing. Nevertheless, just imagine how much you’ll burn if you’re a consistent drinker of cold water.

2. It improves the condition of your skin.

If you’re confused whether to use cold or warm water when washing your face, well, you’ll get the answer right here: warm water opens pores so it’s easier for you to get rid of blemishes, blackheads, and whiteheads. But it’s cold water that tightens the skin, maintains moisture, and thus, keeps your skin supple.

Warm water strips you of essential oils; cold water traps them.

3. It makes you alert.

Most likely you’ve seen at least one ice bucket challenge, and you’ve observed how people got all tingly with every drop of ice-cold water into their bodies. Here’s why: underneath your skin are thousands of tiny sensors that send rapid signals to the brain. These sensors are very sensitive to coldness. When the brain senses these signals, it then pumps up your adrenals, which then increase your heart rate and make you more alert.

4. It improves your immunity.

This still requires a more comprehensive proof, but some studies do point out that bathing for less than 3 minutes in cold water can increase the production of white blood cells.

White blood cells act as your body’s soldiers. They have antibodies that fight off infection, kill bacteria and other harmful microorganisms, and help you develop immunity over certain diseases such as chickenpox.

Hopefully the next time you drink some ice-cold water, you’ll learn to enjoy each sensation it creates.
