For many years, coffee was demonized by many sources; even experts themselves are guilty of this. However, as more research is made, it has been discovered that coffee has a ton of benefits. One of this is that it is good for the liver. Drinking lots of coffee – at least three cups per day – can lower the non-performing enzymes that are found in your liver. Even more good news is the fact that this can also happen when you drink decaffeinated coffee.

Decaffeinated Coffee Also Benefits the Liver

According to Dr. Xiao Qian, study author from Maryland, it is no secret that coffee is really good for the liver. What they do not know is whether or not this also applies for decaf. The doctor and his colleagues compared the previous data and they conducted a new study involving almost 28,000 adults who were more than 20 years old. The goal of the study is to help Americans achieve better health, particularly those who will undergo medical examinations.

After conducting the research, they found out that those who drank at least three cups of coffee per day had much lower enzyme levels in the liver compared with those who don’t drink coffee.

More Coffee Benefits

Coffee is not only good for the liver, but it is also very healthy. With the antioxidants that it possesses, it can be compared to the antioxidant levels found in fruits and vegetables. Additionally, there are many studies that show how coffee eliminates or lowers the risk of serious diseases – most of those diseases are deadly.

Drinking three to four cups a day is also linked to lower type 2 diabetes occurrence. Type 2 diabetes is observed when you have high levels of blood sugars and your body resists insulin. A review involving more than 457.000 participants showed that people who consume coffee had lower diabetes risk.

Coffee drinkers also have lower risk of acquiring Alzheimer’s disease, which is the most frequent neurodegenerative disease on the planet today. Drinking at three to five cups a day can lower your risk for this disease by up to 65%. It is not recommended that you exceed five cups though as this can also lead to Alzheimer’s.

Since drinking coffee is good for the liver, you can say it can lower your risk of liver cancer. Coffee drinkers are believed to have up to 80% chance of avoiding cirrhosis where the liver tissue becomes scarred. More importantly, coffee can help you avoid liver cancer, which can cause death. Drink at least two to four cups per day to stay healthy and away from liver cancer up to 43%. Drinking five or more though can up your protection by 76%.
