Although scars and keloids are non-life-threatening, they can be unsightly and embarrassing. Usually, when you want to “remove” them, you spend hundreds of dollars on laser and other surgical procedures.

To avoid side effects and to save some cash, consider getting rid of them with these natural remedies:

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

ACV is a good natural treatment for keloids since they can help reduce their size and itchiness. To use it, dab cotton with ACV and apply it directly into the affected area. Wait for a few minutes to allow ACV to go deeper into your skin and dry. Repeat the process for a few times during the day.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C that helps in skin healing and lightens the appearance of scars, especially if they are new. To apply, squeeze the juice from the lemon and apply directly to your skin using your fingers or dipping cotton to it. Wait for a couple of minutes before washing it with water.

Aloe Vera

A natural skin wonder treatment, aloe vera moisturizes your skin, preventing dryness and itchiness. It also prevents infections and reduces inflammation.

Remove aloe vera skin carefully to expose the flesh. Blend to make gel then apply on the scar tissue. Wait for a few minutes before washing it.

Baking soda

Keloids and scars are skin tissues that tend to cover the scars to protect them from further injury (keloids are merely overgrowth of scar tissues due to overproduction of collagen).

Baking soda may be used to stimulate constant production of new healthy skin cells through exfoliation.

Make a paste by combining a part baking soda and three parts water. Mix both until they form a paste, apply on the affected skin, and then scrub for a few minutes. Wash after with clean water.

If the scar has the tendency to become inflamed or itchy, use hydrogen peroxide instead of water for its anti-microbial properties.

Prevent Scars from Developing

The treatments above may not necessarily remove scars and keloids but lighten their color so they become significantly less visible.

If you want to avoid dealing with scars in the future, avoid injuries. For example, if you have acne, don’t squeeze those zits or remove blackheads and whiteheads by yourself. Seek a professional dermatologist who can provide you with the right treatment.
